==== 1. Don't Waste your Free Time! ====
Assalaamu-alaikum wa rahmatullah.
Thought for the Week: Don't Waste your Free Time!
Calling on Muslims to utilise their time, to benefit from it and not to
waste it, the Prophet said,
"On the Day of Resurrection the feet of the son of Adam [man]
will not move away till he is questioned about four matters:
how he spent his lifetime,
how he spent his youth,
from where he acquired his wealth and how he spent it,
and what he did with his knowledge."
[Abul-Qasim Attabarani, “Al-Mu`jam Al-Kabeer” (The Great Dictionary), 20/61.
Sunan at-Tirmidhi, no. 2417]
He also said,
"Grab five things before five others:
your youth before your decrepitude,
your health before your illness,
your wealth before your poverty,
your leisure before your work,
and your life before your death."
[Al-Hakim, “Al-Mustadrak”, Book No. 44, 4/341]
This Hadith is a direct call on Muslims to invest their time as early as
possible when conditions are favourable, i.e., youth, health, wealth and
time before being handicapped by impediments, such as old age, sickness,
poverty or preoccupation.

==== 2. Cambridge Muslims Financial Statement for 2003 ====
The Financial Statement for year ending 2003 has now been posted on the
website at
http://www.cambridgemuslims.info/AboutUs/finstat03.htm
==== 3. UPDATE: Emergency Appeal for Khalid ===
Sr. Juveria's son Khalid has been extremely ill recently. His story can be
read here:
http://www.cambridgemuslims.info/Announcements/Default.asp#Khalid
Sister Iman has provided the following update on Khalid's condition.
The family have taken Khalid out of NHS care and chosen to seek private
consultations from a gastro specialist at the Lea Hospital.
A Paediatrician is currently arranging a meeting with a Neuro-radiologist to
sit down with the family and go through Khalid's MRI scans analysing every
millimetre of his brain to try and find out how the brain lesions may be
affecting areas of Khalid’s body.
The hospital has noticed he has low vitamin D and ferritin levels. And
since starting him on Creon 10,000 with a growth hormone, Khalid has an
appetite and asks for food. Alhamdulilah he has managed to keep it all down
and has put on nearly 2 kgs in one week! (now 43kgs). Although he still has
bouts of nausea and wakes through the night in chronic pain in his tummy,
chest, and all joints.
The specialist at the Lea Hospital is now working to get Khalid a scan
(which involves inserting a camera into Khalid) to try and identify what is
causing the pain. This could be as soon as tomorrow or next week depending
on the family’s financial situation. The scan costs approximately £500.
(amount is yet to be confirmed).
You can help by
* arranging a visit to Khalid and/or his family
* or provide food for the family (one meal for four people per day)
* Continue making du'a for Khalid and his family

==== 4. UPDATE: Turning Muslim in Texas ===
Last Saturday (Saturday 10th January) Channel 4 aired 'Turning Muslim in
Texas' as part of their Texas Season.
"Examining an unexpected new phenomenon in modern Texas - conservative white
Americans who are abandoning their strict Christian upbringing and
converting to Islam."
Some of you may have recognised brother Dawood (David) - "David is the only
white Muslim in his little town on Route 66".
A number of us knew Dawood personally - as he used to visit Cambridge
regularly in the early 1990's when was stationed at a near by US base.
