==== 2. Special Event: Special Event: You can HELP save a LIFE ====
HELP SAVE A LIFE
(The Anthony Nolan Trust, the UK's largest stem cell register)
Every year, thousands of people with bone marrow diseases such as leukaemia,
aplastic anaemia and inborn metabolic and immune deficiency disorders, reach a
stage where ONLY a bone marrow transplant can possibly save them.
Family members, particularly brothers and sisters, can make the best matches.
However, this is not always possible and patients must hope that an unrelated
volunteer donor will be found.
!!ALERT!!
Less than 1.5% of volunteers are Asian and the figures are much lower for many
other ethnic groups.
We also hear that the Trust needs more people from different ethnic backgrounds
to join. Why? Tissue-types are common to your ethnic make-up. Therefore a match
will almost always be found only in someone who shares the same ethnic
characterisitics. eg: An African-Caribbean patient will need a similar donor,
Jewish patient:Jewish donor, Oriental Patient: Oriental donor and so on. Read
more about this in our article on ethnic recruitment:
http://www.anthonynolan.org.uk/ndonors/ethnic.html
http://www.anthonynolan.org.uk/ndonors/statistics.html
A clinic at has been arranged on:
Wednesday between 11.00am - 2.00pm.
Anglia Polytechnic University
Ruckin Lounge, East Street
Please feel free to come along to see what is involved and maybe encourage
others to register there, it is open to the public.
Often the only chance of a cure for patients with bone marrow disorders like
leukaemia is to have a bone marrow transplant
If you are found to be a match for a patient you will have a thorough medical
examination to assess your fitness to donate to make sure that there are no
risks to you, if at any stage we feel that you are not suitable we simply will
not allow you to go ahead. Every person that donates is a volunteer, we rely on
that so would never put ourselves in a position that could possibly put a donor
at risk.
If you go on to donate the marrow or cells that we take from the donor is
regenerated within around 10 - 14 days. We do not take anything from the body
that does not replace itself.
We fully reimburse you with any loss of wages that you may have for taken the
time off work and pay for all travel expenses and additional costs.
For more information contact Debby Morris, Donor Recruitment Officer (Southern).

==== 3. Hans Blix speaks at the Cambridge Union ====
Well, they may have found Saddam Hussein, but those weapons of mass destruction
are still proving rather elusive... As Chief Weapons Inspector for the United
Nations, Hans Blix became the focus of world attention in the run-up to last
year’s war in Iraq, and his knowledge of the capabilities of the former Iraqi
regime can be surpassed only by Saddam himself. Dr. Blix received his Ph.D. from
Trinity Hall in the 1950s before becoming a professor of international law at
Stockholm University and Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs in 1978. He was
appointed Executive Chairman of the United Nations Monitoring, Verification, and
Inspection Commission by the UN Secretary-General in 2000, holding the post
until the end of June last year. Dr. Blix holds the answers to questions which
could affect global security, the political fates of the Prime Minister and the
US President, and the future of Iraq: be sure not to miss his keynote speech.
He is scheduled to appear on Wednesday 25th at 7.30pm, but to be sure of a place
make your way down to the Union Building by 7pm. Although events are often open,
there is no guarantee of a place for non-members, so it may be prudent to pair
up with a member to ensure you are not left disappointed on the night.

==== 5. Accomodation Required - Can YOU help? ====
Dear Cambridge Muslims ONLINE,
Thank you for your telephone call earlier today. As we discussed OISE is
a language school specialising in intensive English courses for business
people. Our students usually opt to stay with a host family in Cambridge.
We have a variety of host families, however no one with a private
bathroom is available at this time
We have a special client coming on 29th March. He is a Palestinian
politician who requires accommodation preferably close to the school with
a private bathroom and obviously no pork or alcohol.
We pay £14.70 per night and this includes bed and breakfast and an
evening meal. We expect the host family to eat the evening meal with the
student and to encourage them to speak English.
This client will be arriving on 29th February and will require
accommodation until 27th March when he will take a week's holiday.
Returning on 4th April until 2nd May.
I would be very greatful if you could pass this on to anyone who might be
interested so that they can contact me as soon as possible.
Thankyou very much for your help,
David

==== 6. Appeal for HELP ====
From Sr. Sheridan
Assalaamu-alaikum wa rahmatullah brothers and sisters
My foster daughter, who is alone with four small children is unwell and needs a
great deal of help and support in the medium term. I was wondering if there are
any brothers and sisters out there who could help me out until mid June (when,
insha'allah, I will have finished my studies).
I need help with any of the following once a fortnight:
Transport:
Friday - 3.10pm from Bar Hill to Cambridge for nine year old daughter (with or
without Mum)
Monday - 8.40am from Cambridge to Bar Hill.
It doesn't have to be the same person for each trip, but they MUST be reliable.
Collecting 5yr old from Ridgefield School (Coleridge):
She needs someone to collect her child on alternate Fridays at 3.15pm from
Ridgefield ScHool and take him home which is about 5-10 mins walk away. She
needs someone to take him to school once a fortnight on a Monday for 9am.
Visiting:
On alternate weekends, when all the children are with her, she sometimes feels a
bit needy for adult company. She would love someone warm and friendly to come
and keep her company for a couple of hours late Saturday afternoons eg anytime
between 4 and 8pm and on Sundays at any time.
Please help if you can by contacting Sister Sheridan on 07930 531910 as soon as
possible
Jazakallah kheiran.
