==== 1. Quotes for the Week ====

Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu.

"But those who have faith and work righteousness, they are companions of the
Garden, abiding in it eternally." [2:82]

"There, no sense of fatigue shall touch them, nor shay they [ever] be
evicted." [15:48]

"They will not taste death therein, except the first death, and He will
preserve them from the penalty of the Blazing Fire. [It will be] a bounty
from your Lord. That will be the supreme achievement!" [44:56-57]

"As for those who believe and work righteous deeds, they will have the
gardens of Paradise as hospitality. Eternally therein, they will not desire
any other [place]." [18:107-108]

"Their Lord gives them glad tidings of a mercy from Himself and good
pleasure and of gardens for them wherein is lasting enjoyment." [9:21]

Wasalam

==== 4. Performing Daily Prayers in Cambridge ====
The latest list can be found at
http://www.cambridgeMuslims.info/Islam/Prayer/

- Abu Bakr Siddiq Mosque
Mawson Road (off Mill Road), Cambridge. Telephone: 01223 350134.

- Cambridge University: Merton Hall Farmhouse, J J Thomson Avenue
a building on Cambridge University's West Cambridge site which has been
allocated for use as chaplaincy, prayer room and meeting space for all
faiths. A number of Muslim staff and students use the prayer room. There are
washing (wudu) facilities, and a kitchen, in the building, which is open
daily from 12.00 pm to 6.00pm via a combination lock. The combination number
is available by e-mail from Barbara Moss (Chaplain to University Staff)
bpm23@cam.ac.uk or Amena Khan altk2@cam.ac.uk. Non-Students may also use
Merton Hall Farmhouse with prior arrangement.

- Cambridge University: Barker Room, Mill Lane
provides a prayer room at the Barker Room, 12 Mill Lane where all other
prayers apart from jummah take place. The prayer room is located very near
the City Centre. Because the Mill Lane Prayer Room is getting increasingly
congested during Zuhr time, alternative arrangements have been made between
Mondays and Thursdays. These will be in effect from this Monday (27th
October). Sisters will now have access to the whole of the Mill Lane prayer
room until 1.45pm. The Muslim Chaplaincy at 8b King’s Parade will be open to
brothers between 1.15pm and 1.45pm. (Please try to come with Wudhu since
facilities are limited there). After this time, brothers who have missed the
congregation will be able to use the prayer room at 12 Mill Lane. Fajr will
be held at 5.30am and Asr will be held at 2.20pm at Mill Lane. Check
www.isoc.co.uk for details.

- Addenbrookes Hospital Chapel
is in the Main Concourse area, where it is well-signposted and accessible to
people using wheelchairs. It is open 24 hours a day, and is used by
patients, relatives/carers and staff as a place of quiet, prayer and
reflection.

==== 5. Tarawih Prayer Information ====
The first Tarawih prayer will be on Sunday 26th October.

- Abu Bakr Siddiq Mosque
Tarawih prayers will be prayed after Isha at Abu Bakr Siddiq Mosque

November 4th, 10th, 11th, 18th, 24th and 25th

Surgeons in England. In 1982 she answered an appeal for an orthopaedic
surgeon to treat war victims in Beirut, where she also helped in the
aftermath of the massacre of Palestinians at Sabra and Shatila refugee
camps. She subsequently co-founded the charity Medical Aid for Palestinians
and wrote her eyewitness account of these events in her book "From Beruit to
Jerusalem". Dr. Ang has recently returned from a visit to Palestine and

==== 8. Local Community Announcements ====
from the Community Announcements page located at
http://www.cambridgemuslims.info/Announcements/

Students and the Local Community: the Big Sib Scheme
Cambridge University Students in conjunction with CMCS are
re-establishing the very successful mentoring/befriending scheme that has
run in previous years. The idea behind the scheme is to pair up a university
student with a youngster in the community, who will be like a big brother or
sister, helping, guiding and socialising with them and insha'allah acting as
positive role models of high achievers who haven't compromised on the deen.
In return, apart from the barakah (blessings) from Allah, the students will
have the benefit of a local 'family', who will insha'allah take an interest
in their general welfare, including the provision of the occasional home
cooked halal meal! Yummy!

Interested in Karate for Kids?
Sister Umm Asadullah says: Interested in Karate for children aged 4-6
years? I have asked a sister in Cambridge about the possibility of starting
Karate classes for Muslim children aged between 4-6 years. Right now I just
want to find out how many people are interested (and will be committed!) in
this, insha'Allah. The idea would be to rent a cheap hall for one hour
during early evening time, one-day-a-week, insha'Allah. I am willing to
"organize" these Karate classes if I get enough committed people. The
classes will not be free. Currently I have six children on the list. If you
are interested or want to know more, then please contact me:
kstarbuck@hotmail.com

Golden Opportunities!
Any brothers or sisters interested in FREE training to be any of the
following: Life Guard, Aerobics Teacher, Childminder, Youth Worker; (all of
which pay very well once trained)? Contact services@cambridgemuslims.info

HELP! Do you know anyone who can teach drumming?
Does anyone know of a sister who can teach drumming to young people as
part of an ongoing project working with youngsters who are drifting or have
drifted away from the Islam? Alhamdullillah we already have a brother who
has volunteered for drum teaching, but anyone who'd like to get involved in
this very important work to guide our young people back to the 'siratul
mustaqeem' would be most welcome. Training is available. Contact
services@cambridgemuslims.info

==== 9. Did You Know? ====
See http://www.cambridgemuslims.info/DidYouKnow/ for some interesting
bits of history.

- King Offa's Gold Coins
They were minted between 758-796 CE by King Offa of Mercia, Kent. The
first side of the coin contains Arabic inscriptions which reads: There is no
god [worthy of worship] except Allah who has no partner or associate.

- Medieval Islamic Coins discovered near Cambridge
Evidence of Muslim presence in the Americas before Columbus. These
Medieval Islamic coins were discovered in 1787, during road-building
excavations between Cambridge and Malden, Massachusetts, USA (not Cambridge
UK!).

- Al Masudi's Map of the World
showing Ard Majhoola or "unknown territory" (the Americas). The Muslim
historian and geographer Al Masudi died (957CE) some 500 years before
Columbus set sail!
