==== 1. Welcome ====
by Elias Karim, News Editor, cmo@CambridgeMuslims.info
Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu.
Welcome to the first issue of our electronic newsletter "Cambridge Muslims
Online UPDATE". This e-newsletter is published by the Cambridge Muslim Community
Services (CMCS). The CMCS is a group of concerned Muslims who live in and around
the district of Cambridgeshire.
CMCS is a Muslim charitable organisation providing services, support and
information to the Muslim community in Cambridge. CMCS is not funded, backed or
supported by any government or institution. We are a local organisation run by
local Muslims. We are funded entirely from voluntary donations by local Muslims.
The CMCS follows the Qur’an and the Sunnah of Prophet Mohammad (SAW) and the
companions of the Prophet (saw) according to the interpretation and accepted
views of the Ahle Sunnah Wa Jamaah, and as expounded by the four recognised
Madhaahabs: Hanafi, Shafi, Malik and Hambali and that which has consensus (ijma’a)
by the majority of the Ulema.
Our Aims and Objectives can be read at
http://www.CambridgeMuslims.info/AboutUs/aims_and_objectives.htm.
In brief, through our website, newsletters, services and activities we will insha Allah try to:
-- to publicise and promote the many existing services provided brothers and
sisters
-- begin to provide the services and support that is lacking in the Muslim
community
-- provide Education and Da’wah
-- to promote local Muslim businesses
YOU can help us by publicising any events and activities to Muslims who would
otherwise be unaware of the help and services available to them.
All praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. There is neither movement nor
power except by Allah, the High, the Great. May Allah bless Muhammad(S), his
family and his companions, and grant them peace.
==== 2. Emergency Appeal ====
from Sr. Fatima and Sr. Iman
We have been informed about a brother who requires urgent medical treatment. He
is 37 years old with a wife and three children. He arrived in England about a
month ago to get a second opinion on his heart condition. Unfortunately, he
collapsed at Heathrow airport just as he arrived. He was rushed off to hospital
and since then the Muslim brothers and sisters in London have been trying to
raise money for a heart operation as his condition has deteriorated.
Unfortunately, the money he brought with him from Morocco for scans etc is
nowhere near sufficient as it also needs to cover medication, accommodation in
the clinic (Muslim brothers have tried to accommodate him in their homes however
after collapsing again he needs constant medical attention). And the actual
operation, which he was due to have on Wednesday 8th September. At the moment
the Muslims in London have managed to raise £17,000, however they need to reach
a target of £25,000+ to cover the increasing expenses of the clinic.
The brother is known personally to members of the SHURA Committee of Cambridge
Muslim Community Services. If anyone would like to donate directly, the Muslims
in London have set up an account - donations big or small are most welcome.
Please donate for the sake of Allah to:

Interested in Karate for Kids?
Sister Umm Asadullah says: Interested in Karate for children aged 4 - 6 years? I
have asked a sister in Cambridge about the possibility of starting Karate
classes for Muslim children aged between 4 - 6 years. Right now I just want to
find out how many people are interested (and will be committed!) in this,
insha'Allah. The idea would be to rent a cheap hall for one hour during early
evening time, one-day-a-week, insha'Allah. I am willing to "organize" these
Karate classes if I get enough committed people. The classes will not be free.
Currently I have six children on the list. If you are interested or want to know
more, then please contact me: kstarbuck@hotmail.com
Golden Opportunities!
Any brothers or sisters interested in FREE training to be any of the following:
Life Guard, Aerobics Teacher, Childminder, Youth Worker; (all of which pay very
well once trained)? Contact services@cambridgemuslims.info.
HELP! Do you know anyone who can teach drumming?
Does anyone know of a sister who can teach drumming to young people as part of
an ongoing project working with youngsters who are drifting or have drifted away
from the Islam? Alhamdullillah we already have a brother who has volunteered for
drum teaching, but anyone who'd like to get involved in this very important work
to guide our young people back to the 'siratul mustaqeem' would be most welcome.
Training is available. Contact services@cambridgemuslims.info.
==== 6. The Muslim Pocket Directory ====
The CMCS has been working to publish a "Muslim Pocket Directory." The aim is to
provide the Muslim community living in the district of Cambridgeshire with
useful contacts such as telephone numbers, addresses and web links, of services
or organisations you may rely on in order to fulfil your needs or duties as a
Muslim. It is hoped that it will be available for distribution by the beginning
of October. The Cambridge University Islamic Society plans to include it its
freshers pack for newcomers who are beginning their stay here in Cambridge. An
electronic copy will also be made available at
www.CambridgeMuslims.info insha
Allah.
