==== 1. Quotes for the Week ====
Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu.
Eid Mubarak!
‘Taqabballallaah minnaa wa minkum.’
May Allaah accept it from us and from you.
Quote of the week:
The Prophet (sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam) said, in a hadith narrated by Bukhari
on the authority of `Uthman ibn `Affan (radiyallahu `anhu): "The best of you is
he who learns and teaches the Qur’an." He also said, as reported by Bukhari and
Muslim on the authority of Abu Musa al-Ash`ari: "Hold fast constantly to this
Qur’an, for by Him in Whose hand lies the soul of Muhammad, it escapes from one
more easily than does a camel from its hobbling-cord."

==== 2. Eid Party Apology ====
In the name of Allah the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy
Assalaam ‘alaikum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu.
Firstly, let me start by thanking everyone who helped to organise the Eid
Ul-Fitr Family Party Tuesday 25th November
at St. Columbus' Church Hall. May Allah (swt) bless and reward you all for your
efforts. All praise is for Allah by whose favour good works are accomplished.
I would like to humbly apologise on behalf of the CMCS to all brothers and
sisters who attended the Eid party for not being able to attend to them in the
manner that they deserve - especially when they are our guests.
We exceeded our expectations on the number of people we expected to attended.
Based on previous Eid gatherings, we expected no more than 200 – 250 people, but
the head count told us that there were over 500 people!
Due to the large numbers of people and lack of space we were unable follow the
Eid programme, provide enough food, nor carry out all the planned activities we
had organised. Please forgive us if you suffered in any manner. May Allah bless
you all and reward you with goodness.
I would also like to thank you all for the manner in which you took on board the
increasing number of guests; every one was accommodating, smiling, and enjoying
themselves. They did not let overcrowding problems come in the way of the
brotherly and sisterly spirit of Islam and Eid.
Insh’Allah we intend on making it up to you on Eid-ul-Adha. We have already
started to learn from our mistakes insha'Allah.
Insh’Allah Eid-ul-Adha will be on Saturday 1st or Sunday 2nd February 2004.
We are looking at larger halls, entertainment for all, food stalls. But above
all your help is required in making it a success for the Muslims in our
community. If you are able to help in any manner before and on the day, help
with making arrangements, putting on a stall etc, please make contact me on
services@CambridgeMuslims.info
This is our community, Insh’Allah together we will overcome all hurdles.
O Allah! We ask You for guidance, O Allah! Guide us along with those whom You
have guided.
Humbly,
Your brothers in Islam
Abdul Kayyum on behalf of the CMCS

==== 5. Property: Lost & Found ====
A "coat confusion" took place at the Girls Eid party on Sunday 30th December, in
which two party-goers mistakenly took each other's black coats! If any one
discovers that they are now in possession of a coat that is not theirs, please
could they contact Sr. Sheridan so that she can reunite them with their rightful
owners. Jazakallah. Email services@CambridgeMuslims.info or call our voice mail
on 0871 242 9696.
==== 6. Did You Know? ====
See http://www.cambridgemuslims.info/DidYouKnow/ for some interesting bits of
history.
- King Offa's Gold Coins
They were minted between 758-796 CE by King Offa of Mercia, Kent. The first side
of the coin contains Arabic inscriptions which reads: There is no god [worthy of
worship] except Allah who has no partner or associate.
- Medieval Islamic Coins discovered near Cambridge
Evidence of Muslim presence in the Americas before Columbus. These Medieval
Islamic coins were discovered in 1787, during road-building excavations between
Cambridge and Malden, Massachusetts, USA (not Cambridge UK!).
- Al Masudi's Map of the World
showing Ard Majhoola or "unknown territory" (the Americas). The Muslim historian
and geographer Al Masudi died (957CE) some 500 years before Columbus set sail!

HELP! Do you know anyone who can teach drumming?
Does anyone know of a sister who can teach drumming to young people as part of
an ongoing project working with youngsters who are drifting or have drifted away
from the Islam? Alhamdullillah we already have a brother who has volunteered for
drum teaching, but anyone who'd like to get involved in this very important work
to guide our young people back to the 'siratul mustaqeem' would be most welcome.
Training is available. Contact services@cambridgemuslims.info
