Cambridge Charity Event of the Year!
“ONE DAY
and Dinner Event
“Fasting to remember” - Learn to appreciate the value of food & water! Remember those who are not as fortunate as ourselves.
You are invited to join in a national day of fasting to remember the plight of those most in need. Joining the fast, you can pledge money to provide clean water and sanitation, health care, employment opportunities and help local charity causes. For Muslims, Ramadan is a month of sacrifice, both in terms of food and wealth. For fourteen centuries, they have abstained from food and drink between dawn and sunset during this month, and increased their good deeds and charity. Now here is a chance for people to come together, regardless of faith or background, and sample the experience of fasting to whatever level they can manage. As well as a learning experience, it is a charitable one. How do I participate? The idea is to raise money for charity by trying to maintain a fast from dawn (5.12am) to sunset (4.20pm). Take part and you will be rewarded with a delicious international meal at the end of the day…who could ask for more? Dinner will be held at St Columba’s Hall, Downing Place. Doors open from 4.00pm Simply e-mail Sameer at the address below to confirm your attendance at the dinner. Tickets are £5, and the money will go to the charities listed below. How can I help raise money? Participants should be sponsored by their friends to take on the challenge, and they will attend a ticket-entry meal supported by Cambridge University Islamic Society. All money raised will go to the designated charities listed below. Download the sponsorship form (PDF) If I don’t want to Fast? If you don’t want to fast but want to come to the dinner, you are warmly invited to make a donation because every penny counts! Contact sak42@cam.ac.uk or info@isoc.co.uk for further details. Please make cheques payable to “Cambridge University Islamic Society” and write ‘Fasting to Remember’ on the back. These should either be brought to the dinner or sent to Zohaib Patel, Trinity College, Cambridge, CB2 1TQ.
